Before you buy, check two things
- Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. Phones bought on a contract are sometimes locked to one network. Ask your carrier if you're not sure.
- Some regional models don't support eSIM. iPhones from mainland China, and most from Hong Kong and Macao, don't. Nor do Samsung phones from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, or US-model Galaxy S20, S21 and Note 20 Ultra.
eSIM compatibility FAQs
How do I know if my phone supports eSIM?
Search for your model on this page, or dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM.
What does carrier-unlocked mean?
An unlocked phone is not tied to one mobile network. Phones bought outright usually are unlocked, while some phones bought on a contract are locked. If you are not sure, ask your carrier to check.
Can I keep my normal SIM card?
Yes. Most eSIM phones support dual SIM, so you can keep your home SIM on for calls and texts and use your travel eSIM for data.
Do iPads and tablets support eSIM?
Many do. Cellular iPad models from recent generations support eSIM, and some Android tablets do too. Wi-Fi-only tablets do not.
My phone is not on the list. Will it work?
Possibly. Our list covers popular models and is not exhaustive. Dial *#06#: if you see an EID number, your phone supports eSIM.
Can I store more than one eSIM?
Yes. Most phones can store several eSIMs and let you switch between them in your settings, so you can keep eSIMs for different trips.
