Staying online in Italy

Train tickets, museum time slots, restaurant bookings and Google Maps through Rome’s backstreets: Italy is easier online. An Italy eSIM gets you connected as soon as you land, from Rome and Milan to the Amalfi Coast.

Mobile coverage

Coverage is very good in cities and along the main train lines. Signal can drop in mountain valleys in the Dolomites, on winding coastal roads and inside thick-walled old buildings and churches.

Main networks:TIMVodafoneWindTreIliad

Your Globbi eSIM connects to a partner network in Italy. Coverage depends on location, like any mobile network.

Good to know in Italy

  • Book timed tickets for the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums and the Uffizi on your phone, often well in advance.
  • Trenitalia and Italo tickets live in their apps. Keep your phone charged for ticket checks on board.
  • Many cafés don’t offer Wi-Fi, so mobile data is the easiest way to stay online.
  • Italy is in the EU and Schengen area, so a Europe eSIM also works if you are visiting neighbouring countries.

When does my Italy eSIM plan start?

Your plan starts when the eSIM first connects to a supported network in Italy, so you can install it before you travel.

Can I use hotspot with the Italy eSIM?

Yes. Hotspot/tethering is allowed on all Italy plans, so you can share data with your laptop or travel companions.

Is the unlimited Italy eSIM really unlimited?

Yes, there's no data cap. Each unlimited plan includes a daily amount of full-speed data (for example 1 GB or 2 GB a day). After that, speeds are reduced until the next day.

Do I get a phone number with the Italy eSIM?

No. Globbi eSIMs are data-only. Keep your regular SIM on for calls and texts, or use WhatsApp, iMessage and FaceTime over data.

Will my phone work with a Italy eSIM?

Most unlocked phones from 2019 onwards support eSIM, including iPhone XR and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and Google Pixel 3 and newer. Dial *#06#: if you see an EID, your phone supports eSIM.

Should I get an Italy eSIM or a Europe eSIM?

If you are only visiting Italy, an Italy eSIM is usually the best value. If you are also travelling to France, Switzerland or elsewhere, a Europe eSIM covers it all on one plan.

Does it work on the Amalfi Coast and in the Dolomites?

Yes, in towns and on main roads. Expect patchy signal on remote mountain trails and some cliffside stretches.
